David Gillette founded God Feet in 2008 after learning that the leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites caused from walking barefoot. In an effort to help, he created a simple business plan to design a quality, faith-based flip-flop and sell it to consumers. For each God Feet flip-flop that is purchased another is sent to one of the 300 million people worldwide in desperate need of footwear. Gillette still vividly remembers the moment he decided to create God Feet. "I was praying about how to best serve God and others," he remembered, "As I opened my eyes, I saw countless people walking by wearing flip-flops and contemplated putting Scripture on them." He then realized he could give a pair away for each pair sold and God Feet was born. Once he started researching his idea, Gillette realized that walking is still the primary mode of transportation for a majority of the planet and that shoes are in short supply. "These people walk miles daily just for clean drinking water, food, shelter, medical attention and education, and they do it all without shoes," he lamented Gillette spent two years developing and refining his business model. After several prototypes and improvements, the inaugural shipment of 2,300 God Feet flip-flops arrived for sale in Dec. 2010. In Jan. God Feet traveled to the City of Angels Orphanage in Tijuana to donate a pair of flip-flops to each of the children there. “We were so honored to get to spend some time at the City of Angels Orphanage, it is such a gift to see the huge smiles that the kids have when we hand them their very own pair of God Feet” said Shannon Gillette ,Vice President, when describing the trip. The God Feet model matches every pair of flip-flops sold, with less fortunate groups, all around the world. By the end of 2011, they expect to have distributed over 10,000 pair of flip-flops to individuals in Mexico and around the world. God Feet sandals are available in numerous sizes and designs for boys and girls as well as men and women. For more information, visit GodFeet.com. |
